Where to Stay in Helsinki for Every Budget

Helsinki is such a fantastic city! It sits on the shore of the Baltic Sea, boasts of a thriving arts scene, is full of public parks, museums, and cathedrals, all served by extremely convenient public transportation.

It’s worth checking out all on its own, or on your way to Lapland, like we did. Below you’ll find the very best hotels for every price range.

Kluuvi

Best for easy navigation

The Kluuvi district is the area closest to the train station. It has a great central location — if you’re flying or taking a train elsewhere in Finland, staying in here is very convenient.

We loved that it’s also within walking distance (about 20 minutes) of Helsinki’s famous markets, historic sites, and upscale shopping and dining.

Mid-range:

Scandic Grand Central

We stayed here our first night in Finland and it was so convenient. After an exhausting amount of travel, we walked across the street from the train station and had a room waiting for us. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a great breakfast included in your stay. We had a room facing the courtyard, and it was especially quiet.

Kaampi

Best for nightlife

Our favorite stay in Helsinki was in Kaampi. We loved that it is not far from the train station and has more than half of the city’s live music venues.  Kaampi has a great mix of nightlife with restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, and great architecture.

Luxury:

Solo Sokos Hotel Torni

Reserve a room up high here — the views of the city are the best in Helsinki! The hotel itself is chic with compelling designs, and breakfast is included with your stay.

Mid-range:

Marksi by Scandic

This was our favorite hotel in Helsinki! It’s beautiful, centrally located, and has an incredible breakfast included with your stay. We also enjoyed their daily offerings, such as free museum tickets and live music in the evenings.
